MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS REFERENCES
Dendrochronological dating of musical instruments is generally carried out in addition to the expertise of a reference violin maker. Without taking any samples, the wood of the soundboard is meticulously “recorded” in the form of HD digital images (x40) in order to measure the tree-ring widths with an accuracy of 0.01 mm, and thus to compare the growth pattern with a wide range of master-chronologies of spruces from Alps, Bavaria, Tyrol, Dolomites, Jura or Vosges forests…
The dendrochronological study of the soundboard also serves as a perpetual and invisible certificate for tracing the instrument!
